Desireé Champagne

Desireé Champagne grew up in a tight-knit community in Hanhville Louisiana. Her love for music started in the church choir. Desireé attended Hanhville High School where she was introduced to the flute and became a member of both the school’s ensemble and symphonic bands, playing throughout her high school years.

Desireé went on to attend the University of Louisiana in Lafayette, here she became a member of the university’s Acadiana Marching Band. They travelled together performing for the multitudes, even being invited to the annual Macys Day Parade in New York.

Music in all its many forms became a deeply rooted seed in Desireé, which she has been passionately nurturing ever since. She would find music in everything and want to know it personally. This is how she would eventually meet Grammy-nominated Zydeco musician Cedric Watson, and become a permanent member of his band, Cedric Watson et Bijou Creole. Desireé took on the roles of rubboard player & vocalist performing both lead & backing vocals.

This traditionally influenced creole/zydeco band would take her on over a dozen tours, travelling both nationally & internationally. Along the way, she has been able to collaborate with many other artists in all genres of music. These connections have led her to work with musicians such as Dirk Powell, Charlelie Couture, Rhiannon Giddens, Sidi Toure, Feufollet and Keith Frank..
